Boards are set out, levelled and fixed with a ventilated cavity behind them, so any moisture that gets past the face can drain and dry instead of sitting against the building. Most people come to us for one of two reasons: an extension, porch or garden room that needs a hard-wearing finish, or an older elevation where cracked render and tired pebbledash have stopped doing their job. Cladding changes the whole look of a property in a matter of days and needs very little looking after afterwards. As with everything we do, the price is fixed in writing after a proper look at the elevation, including battens, breather membrane, trims, corners and the tidy-up. A full extension wrap or a whole house typically runs to about a week, depending on access. Is cladding better than re-rendering?Neither is automatically better. Cladding suits extensions, timber-frame walls and elevations where render keeps cracking; render suits solid masonry that is in good order. We will tell you honestly which fits your property. Does cladding need painting?No. Composite and PVC boards keep their colour and only need an occasional wash down. Can you clad over existing render or pebbledash?Usually yes, once any loose or blown areas are removed and the wall is made sound. The battened frame levels out what is left behind. Will it cause damp behind the wall?Not when it is built as a ventilated rainscreen. The cavity behind the battens lets air move and any moisture drain out at the bottom. Do I need planning permission?Cladding is often permitted development on a standard house, but it can be restricted in conservation areas, on listed buildings and on some newer estates.
